A Swiss Weekend with 6 shows! Goodness!

Greetings! This weekend has been busy, wonderful, relaxing and lots of hard work! Joseph and I took the train 7 hours to Heiden, Switzerland and played in the evening. We then drove with the ever so thoughtful, Hans Duerr, to Lohn, Switzerland after the concert. Hans organized a few shows for us-one Saturday morning and two Saturday evening. Then we played in a church service on Sunday morning and since the sermon was centered around Noah and the Ark, we sang "The Lord Told Noah to Build Him and Arky Arky". That, my friends, is a funny children's song. It seemed fitting, though.

Tonight we had a proper concert in Kirche Lohn with a beautiful audience. Here are two photos from tonight's show in Lohn. We got the audience to sing along with us on a few tunes, too!

It has been a great weekend, thanks to Hans Duerr!

How to Pick up a Guy at the Airport!

You ready? This is how I picked up a man at the Frankfurt, Germany Airport today!

Little sun dress, red painted nails, a love note and a broken computer...yep.

Our date once he arrived? ...To the Mac/Apple Store...oh, yes, very romantic. I know the way to this man's heart. We got my computer fixed, had a nice lunch, headed back to Friedberg on the train and cooked up some good food.

Oh yes, my man, Joseph, came over to hang and play some music with me in Europe :o) ...and for that, I am really thankful!

We head to Switzerland in the morning to meet up with the fabulous Hans Duerr and to play a few songs in Heiden.

To all the swiss folks that would like to come and hear us play...

Out in the Country with Horses

Greetings!

Today I was out in the country near Friedberg with my friend Marion. She takes care of a few horses and so she invited me to go along. There was this sweet white pony named Ernie and several beautiful horses. We hung out and I sang Swing Low, Sweet Chariot to them...and tried to talk with them. If you pet their nose they smile. It is the cutest thing! Here is Marion with her horse, too.

In the morning I will head to pick up my man from the airport! He's pretty awesome. Yep, I am excited about that!

2 Love birds at train station

Yesterday I had breakfast and a radio interview with the lovely Anika Wiesbeck in Baden-Baden. We rushed to the train, snapped this photo and said our goodbyes.

I took the train to Friedberg and waited for a friend. I was there for a few hours so I bought an ice cream and soaked in a little sun outside in the front of the station. After a while I got a little bored so I pulled out my guitar and started playing.

About 30 minutes later these two sweet folks (love birds) approached me and started listening to the tunes. They were both blind but knew their way around the city. They were so cute...so in love and exchanging sweet little kisses with each other the whole time.

They told me about how they love country music and would love to go to Nashville someday..maybe for their wedding when they "win the lottery", they said. They asked me to play a few tunes and I did. The woman has such a love for music and such a soft heart that she started crying while I was singing. They were both so precious and encouraging.

At the end of it, they insisted on buying me a water, buying my new album and they even invited me to dinner with them. I let the guy play my guitar and he played "Country Road" and I sang a little harmony.

They want to come to my show in September :o) It was a cool day! Such nice folks. In traveling one can encounter all kinds of beautiful people.

Mental Massage? Yes please.

I think it would be amazing to get a mental massage on days where your head was full of tension, confusion and stress. Is there such a thing? ... Where all of the peices would fit back into place and you would feel renewed? Ah! That would be lovely.

Maybe..therapists, counselors, social workers, or friends that are good listeners perform this...

Busking on the streets of Baden-Baden...well, sort of...

After 3 1/2 days on my own at my friend's place (she is awesome to let me have her place, by the way :o) I was bored out of my mind and thought that I would take my guitar to the center of town and play a few tunes. I ended up meeting a busker under a tree and we played some Johnny Cash tunes and gospel tunes together.

He told me of his life and struggles in the past couple years and instead of playing lots of songs, we had a conversation about life, perspective and being right-brained. You never know what you'll come across in traveling.

Tomorrow I head out to Friedberg (Hessen), Germany to play a show at a girls home with my friend Tess. I will get to see my friend Marion again which makes me smile. Next week starts the Swiss part of the tour and I am really looking forward to those shows.

I should be sleeping...but...

I can't sleep tonight...

There are sometimes where there are just too many things on your mind and sleep doesn't come. Tonight that is the way that it is going for me...actually, it is already the morning and I am just heading to sleep.

Tonight I worked on a new song and on a few unfinished ones from a few months ago. I can't wait to have them in a listenable form so that you can hear them. Sometimes I think that sleeplessness/restlessness is there because you need to get some things out...I am thankful for songwriting at that point...it preserves my sanity.

This weekend I am heading to Mannheim to see some long-time dear friends. I've got some plans for the US in fall...so, let me know if you want me to play in your city :o)

Thoughts from the 1st month of tour

I have been on tour in Europe now for one month. My thoughts and things I've realized:

1. Europe is beautiful and I love it
2. I miss my friends, family and my love
3. It is a fabulous thing to be paid for something you love to do
4. It is difficult when you have a week and half with no shows and don't know what to do with yourself
5. Enjoying where you are is good, and being reminded of those you love back home is also good.
6. Meeting people and being surrounded by a new culture is good for the brain (it teaches/challenges)
7. Learning new words in a language can make you feel very young, and that's not a bad thing
8. God truly provides

Today I am working on the upcoming tour and also getting some inspiration for another video to make :o)

College Booking and a House Concert Tour

Today was a little vacation hanging with friends, walking down train tracks, taking some photos and then having lunch and dinner with my friend, Anika.

I've been editing a video today to put online...almost finished.

So, tomorrow starts a working week of booking and finalizing some details for upcoming shows. The plan is to start with fall shows at colleges/universities in the US and start booking a house concert tour in the US and then in Europe. It will be quiet a big project and a lot of work, but so worth it.

My First German Wedding!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attening and playing music for a friend's wedding here in Germany. The reception was a massive barbeque. Amazing food and lovely people. I played a little concert in the end of the evening and got the folks up and out of their chairs to do the Hokey Pokey. Ha!

Today I am spending time with a fabulous family in Rastatt and we are about to go and see a beautiful castle! I will take some pictures!

On top of a mountain with a few thousand Germans

For the last two days I have been on top of a mountain with about 5,000 Germans at the Zeltstadt (TentCity). I played two concerts there and met some really warm-hearted people. There wasn`t wireless internet or any mobile network service to speak of, but it was nice to be in this big community away from all of the stresses of life.

Today I spent some time editing a very special video that should make you smile :o) I will post it on Monday.

Tonight I had a late night drive to Rastatt and in the morning I will head to Gernsbach to play at a good friend of mine´s wedding :o)

Open Skys, A Glockenspiel, and Exhaustion

Today consisted of a meeting with Teenstreet, 3 trains, good friends, playing a set at the Open Skys festival in Neuffen (with a cool Glockenspiel player, I might add....Martin or "egee"sp?), and coming home with my good friends that always make me feel at home here in Bad Urach! The night was ended with a delicious German beer-Ulrichsbier!

Today, I dropped my suitcase on my other foot...just a side note for those who read what happened yesterday...oh and I dropped a guitar stand on my toe, too....So, prayers for my feet and toes are much appreciated! Geez!

I am exhausted, but so thankful. I am thankful that I have a nice bed to sleep in tonight and that I am in the house of a family whose hearts are so warm and inviting! I am thankful that my man is coming over to Europe to hang. I am thankful that my parents will come over to Europe soon, too!

Tomorrow I have big plans, I tell ya....BIG...I am making a new video just for you. Seriously! It's going to be wery special. Trust me. (wery is not an accident) :o)

Exhaustion is kicking in now.

OUCH!

Today was a long day and tomorrow will be, too...right now I am sitting in a hotel lobby in Offenburg, Germany catching up on email. It's pretty late, but I just wanted to tell you a little about my day.

It started off great...breakfast, packing, emailing, working a little, lunch...then a sunny, but exhausting walk to the train station with all of my crazy heavy stuff. While waiting for the train I changed my shirt right on the train platform...put one over the other and then somehow wiggled out of the original one. Skills, oh yeah. Everyone has to be good at something.

(Caution:Don't read the following paragraph if you are easily grossed out) I boarded the train and then pulled my extremely heavy suitcase up into the train. Suddenly I felt an excruciating pain!!! OUCH! My second toenail had caught on my suitcase somehow and when I jerked the suitcase up and into the train, it ripped my toenail halfway off and took the top few layers of skin off!! I started bleeding like crazy. I focused, put my bags away got to the nearest empty seat and tried to hold back my tears. Yea, that didn't work so well. The trip was made better, though, since the ticket taker brought my a bandaid and my seat neighbor across the way offered me some water. Lesson learned...don't wear flipflops while managing heavy baggage. The doctors at the Teenstreet festival where I played today took great care of me.

Finally once the tears stopped and I could try to relax my neighbor, Jerome from Sri Lanka, started talking with me. Small talk didn't last long...this guy has an AMAZING story. He is 23 now and he works in Germany with a Christian organization. When he was 16 he stopped talking and went completely blank mentally. He was violent, wandered off and got lost a lot, slept on the streets where his parents couldn't find him and had severe depression. There were local people involved in witchcraft that the family suspected had been praying curses over their family. His parents tried to get him help locally and eventually sent him to India for intensive treatments. This still didn't help and his parents thought about hospitalizing him, but his mother wouldn't have it.

One night as he was in bed at 4am, he woke up and felt what seemed like electric currents running through his body. He felt like something was leaving him. He sat up, sobered, and went to the room where his mother was crying and, as he discovered, praying for him. He asked, "Mom, why are you crying?" At the sound of her son saying "Mom", after he had been mute for a year, she started sobbing and was thanking God for answering her prayers. From that moment on Jerome, was restored completely! He is now 23. I started sobbing while he told me his story. It was beautiful to see the freedom and light in his eyes giving full representation of God' healing power.

Tonight I played the Teenstreet festival and met lots of new folks. I played on a stage high up from the ground and above a drink bar for the festival. I climbed up an actual ladder to get onto the stage...with my bandaged toe. I got the teens to do the Hokey Pokey and to echo some bluegrass tunes with me. Alexander from South Africa joined me on his blues harmonica!

Well, I hope that your toe doesn't hurt (like mine) and that you are able to get a good night sleep.

A day to do nothing

Today started very slowly, I must say. I was tired out and found myself whining and in a bit of a crabby mood (don't worry, I was alone, so no one was subjected to that :o). After making some eggs for breakfast I decided to really go all out with this day that I had to rest and to do nothing.

After my normal getting ready routine...shower, teeth brushing, etc, I gave myself a face mask, deep conditioned my hair and whitened my teeth. Now, you may be thinking "Who cares?"...well, fair enough...

I took a walk down to the train station and got some sun rays on the way. I stopped and had a döner which is like a gyro with slow roasted lamb, lettuce, tomatoes, yogurt sauce and banana peppers.

The day was slow going, relaxing and just what I needed. Sometimes I forget to stop and be thankful for days like this.

I hope that you find some time to do something relaxing this week.

House Concerts :o)

Tonight I had the pleasure of playing a house concert together with Tess Wiley in Marburg. I've only done a few house concerts in my life (3 or 4 now) but I am really starting to love them.

It's usually 30-40 people in a living room or in the garden/yard...with a nice atmosphere...candles, lamps, cool lights...a relaxed environment and an intimate concert where the banter between the artist and the audience is welcomed.

Tonight before the concert, one of the hosts wanted me to play a song on the piano. I played "Palm of Your Hand" which is a slower tune. He started tearing-up and said, "I am almost crying". He had me play the song again then and then he had me play it again after the concert. Wow! It is so rich and sweet when someone connects with a song like that. He later bought a Cd and his son was astonished, saying "He doesn't normally buy CDs" :o) When Tess and I were getting in the car he came over and gave us some extra pocket money. I wanted to say, "aww, thanks dad!"

This evening, the house concert was on the stone porch with golden lights and the audience sat in the garden with long tables and little awnings overhead. Tess and I did a few tunes together. She added melodica, some percussion and beautiful harmonies on a few of my tunes and I added a little harmony and shaker on a few of her tunes. The audience sang with us on a few tunes which warmed the place right up!

By the end of the night we were freezing and I thought that hot apple cider which is normally for the winter time would have fit just perfectly. We were bundled up with blankets and jackets. Is this really summertime? I know that a lot of Germans are probably asking the same question.

It was a great night! What a sweet evening. I am thinking that a house concert tour should be in the works :o)

A fabulous evening in Wetzlar, Germany!

This evening was filled with homemade appetizers, candles, cool lamps, guitars, singing, conversation, and a wonderful audience of warm hearted folks :o) My Gerglish (German/English mix) was well received! (I think :o)

Thanks to all of the lovely people that came out to the LivingRoom concert this evening in Wetzlar. Tess Wiley sang and played so beautifully and she even joined me on a couple tunes. She pulled out a melodica solo on one of my tunes!

Thanks to Sven Olaf who drove a few hours to get to the show! I hadn't seen him in 10 years! Thanks to Conny and Arne for coming out to the show after only hearing me play 3 tunes at one of the Kandern outings! Thank you to the wonderful hosts!

After one taxi, 2 buses, one plane, and then a car ride, I arrived safely into the Basel, Switzerland airport, went out on the French side and ended up in Germany. Perfect.

On a Harley and playing at the Blue Ball

Birmingham with Mike & Pippa Rimmer

Most of today was spent asleep on the National Express Coach...5 hours of travel. sheesh! Canterbury to London, London to Birmingham.

I was greeted at the coach station by the wonderful Mike Rimmer. He is a radio broadcaster and journalist that I met in Nashville 2 years ago. You can check his blog out here http://www.mikerimmer.co.uk/ He and his wife, Pippa, had a small group from their church at their house tonight and asked me to play a few tunes. It was a good time. After that we went out for Indian food, met up with a friend, Joel, and headed back to the house.

In the morning we are doing a radio interview and then taking a look around Birmingham and then it is off to Cambridge in the evening.

There are two special towers in Birmingham that inspired J.R.R. Tolkien to write "Two Towers". Here is a photo of one of them.

Official Tour Poster

To start the tour off right, Heidi Frank, a very talented singer/songwriter and graphics designer created a fabulous tour poster for this summer's tour. Please take a look and let me know what you think.

This morning started off with breakfast and lunch all at once with my friends, Terry and Vicki, in Sevenoaks. Then I caught the National Express (England's version of the Greyhound..but much nicer) from Dartford over to Whistable which is right outside of Canterbury on the coast (where I wrote the song from my new album 'Coast of Kent'). There was tons of traffic on the way and we were a little nervous about missing the bus. Well, the bus ended up being late due to the traffic, too. So I made it!... Just in time with my two suitcases and guitar (I am hiring a massage therapist after lugging around these bags...not really...but wouldn't that be nice? :o). The bus was nice but smelled like bathroom air freshener. It was quiet on the bus for the most part. There was a man in the back near the bathroom that I am sure has played a pirate in a movie at some point in life...just had the pirate look....hard to explain.

My sweet friend Dixie was there to meet me in Whistable. It was raining today, a bit dreary, but Dixie had good news. Nigel Hobbins, one of my favorite English folk singers, was playing a gig in Herne Bay and wanted me to play a few songs this evening. So, after 'tea', Dixie and I drove 4 miles to an old nice and pretty conservative church. I will post a video soon so you can hear Nigel Hobbins and the Backroom Boys. I hope that you love it. It's the kind of jolly music with a deep message that makes you smile the whole time, but you don't know why. My favorite part of the whole show was in the middle, right before I played, one of the singers from the other band went into the backroom of the church where I was tuning up the guitar. She said 'It's a little nerve-racking out there' I turned around and she whipped out a flask and took a few good swigs of whiskey. I had to crack up. She was lovely.

Today I was thinking about how thankful I am ..for friends...and for friends that have amazing hospitality who really make you feel loved when you are hanging out with them. Thanks to Terry & Vicki and Howard & Dixie for the warm meals, hugs, rides and great conversations. Friendship makes the tour so much richer!

In the a.m. I will be playing some tunes at Whistable Baptist Church on Middlewall in Whitstable...some for the kiddos and some for everyone. Any suggestions on the children's songs? Maybe 'This Little Light of Mine'.

It's the little things...

Well, I promised hedge photos. No hedge photos, yet. My apologies :o)

Today I spent time outdoors in SevenOaks working on booking buses, trying to book a flight and answering emails. There was a funny convo with two workman that were fixing a few things around the house today. One of the guys was telling me how to do a British accent by substituting the "th" sounds with and "f" sound. Like fings or somefing. It was good fun. Practice and let me know how that goes for ya. In the end he asked for a song and he ended up buying a Cd and recommending that I should get up with BBC Radio 1. Will do.

Do you want to see some photos? Here is what I have so far--The plane ride (beautiful sky) and the first dinner that I had in England this time around (ham, carrots, peas, and mashed potatoes.

Today I was thinking about how expensive things in England can be...but, I was also thinking about how I love the English toffee here and I can't wait to buy some. Have you tried it before? Trader Joe's has a chocolate covered version of English toffee which is quite good...but the toffee here is incredible. It's the little things that make me smile.

Any good suggestions of things that I MUST try while I am over here?

Nashville to Atlanta to London

Hey! I hope that you've had a good day.

Well, to get started...I arrived safely in London. The flight was ok...The dinner was pretty delicious, I have to say. It was chicken breast, with garlic butter/cream sauce, orzo, and mixed veggies with red wine. Yum. I did struggle through static-filled headphones to hear the film, Jane Eyre and sleep was a bit impossible.

I had the privilege of sitting next to Crystal, a Wisconsin born daughter-of-Dairy-Farmers who brought me up-to-speed on how cows are milked (with machines), how often they should be milked (often...well, daily?), what happens to them when they aren't milked (their udders get infected and they die), the average life-span of a cow. She is doing a 6-credit grad course abroad in England for her studies in Library Science.

I was "fetched" at the airport by my friend Terry (who, by the way, has one of the largest vinyl collections I've seen). My first day in Sevenoaks (outside of London) included making breakfast, drinking espresso with Vicki and Terry, showering, sleeping 5 hours, having a wonderful dinner that Vicki made of ham, carrots, peas, cauliflower, mashed potatoes, finished with a "pudding" (aka- dessert) of cake, custard, strawberry preserves and fresh strawberries!!! We went for a walk in a beautiful park and around the neighborhood until I got freaked out by the bats circling overhead. Talking with my man via Skype made the evening end so sweetly.

Jet-lag isn't going to win tonight. I am falling asleep now. Tomorrow, I will post some photos...I want to you see the hedges in the neighborhood. (shrubbery..now thinking of Monty Python).

Nicaraguan Dinner last night

So, this February, I went to Nicaragua (Central America) for the first time. It is such a cool place..beautiful, tropical places, volcanos, nice folks, beautiful sunsets and amazing food! Last night I cooked and created a close-to-authentic Nicaraguan food experience for me and my BF Katy. I cooked rice and black beans (with garlic, onions, cilantro, saffron flowers, and dill), sweet ripe plantains cooked in butter to golden goodness, garlic chicken broiled with chilli peppers, pan fried queso seco (white hard cheese) and queso fresco (white soft cheese) with tomatoes on the side, and crepes with cinnamon and queso fresco with a touch of brown sugar.

I love love love to cook. Thank you Nicaragua for adding some delicious new food to my menu :o)

Maybe it's just in Nashville...when I am anywhere else, I feel differently...here in Nashville, even though I have some great friends, I feel like I am on the outside many times...Do you know what I mean? Most of the time I am just a wandering nomad just trying to make sense of life. God is the only foundation that grounds me when I feel like this...I am very thankful for that. I am glad to know that His love is constant.

A Blogging Break :o(

Greetings to you! I haven't been blogging this week...just taking a break....well, sort of. I did get some sweet emails of folks checkin in on me to make sure that all was well.

This week I have been hanging out quite a bit at the Broadstairs Folk Week. I did get to play two different evenings briefly at the Folk Club/Sailing Club. I met tons of folks and got a few bookings for next year, thanks to my good friend Dixie and some of the folks at the festival.

Besides that I have been...recording 3 more songs for the new album, walking a LLLLOTT carrying my guitar, learning tons about English folk music & Moorish Dancing at the Broadstairs Festival, cooking, doing laundry, hanging out with the Leddy children, exploring Whistable and trying to get my head together and my self restored after all of the travel and killing a few spiders (sorry...they creep me out a bit). I have been trying to get my 200 cds that went to the wrong address rerouted here to Whistable...oh what fun :o/ I have been painting a new painting, making some new jewelry to sell, and writing a few new tunes.

I went busking in Canterbury again, made 50 Pounds...partially, because a man named John gave me 20 Pounds and then introduced me to another American in town & bought our dinner. Also, a sweet little boy Alex, 7 years old, came by on his bike while I was busking, reached in his wallet and put coins in my guitar case...crazy cool! He came back later with his mom and talked for a while. Also, I have been writing postcards to send out to the folks that won the postcard blog...sorry it has taken forever...they will be sent before I leave England.

Broadstairs Folk Week

This afternoon I boarded a coach/bus in Leeds, traveled to London then to Canterbury. The Leddys (great friends of mine) picked me up & we all (with the 3 lovely children) went out to a nice dinner. They were all dressed up in their finest and looked gorgeous! Since I came off of a 7 hour and 20 minute trip, I was looking like a 'hot mess'..haha.

After dinner we headed to Broadstairs to check out if anything was on for the Folk Week. You can check it out here (Broadstairs Folk Week/Festival).

I have some shows coming up in the next few days, so I will try to post them tomorrow :0)

I made one pound busking! Whoo hoo!

Leeds,England is a beautiful place! Today Ellie and I walked through the outdoor markets & fruit & veggie stands in the inside market. I bought a dragon fruit (haven't tasted it yet), cherries, strawberries & some chocolate (to make crepes with :0)

In the market they have a whole row of butcher shops. It was really crazy to walk in and see two pigs hanging from the ceiling...I had to turn away, yikes! The nice butcher packaged everything for Ellie while I wandered outside of the door. I just kept on telling myself that I shouldn't look at the pigs because I was feeling wooooszy.

Then we walked through the town, printed my bus tickets at the library, had a quick bite of sushi at a conveyor belt sushi place, came home, worked on laundry, then went out to busk (play music) on the streets with Josh (saxophone). We made one pound!! HAAHA! About 3 or 4 people dropped some coins in...and it equalled about one pound (1.70 dollars). It was a fun time.

We came home and cooked up a scrumptious meal. Ellie and Josh and I all chopped up the veggies and then they went to work on preparing the meal...it was tomatoes, black Greek olives, sundried tomatoes, garlic, eggplant, zucchini, chorizo, chilis over linguini! We had a nice glass of red wine and candles on the table :0)

We rushed off to go to the band practice at their church. Ellie was running the media slides and Josh was playing sax in the band. The folks there were SOO nice! They offered me a coffee..instant...and I went to pour the hot water in it...the spout must have been clogged...then it burst out like a fire hydrant and went everywhere! I just stood there stunned for a second and then apologized :o/ All was well, and we headed home.

AH! We came home and I made french crepes! Ellie whipped up some fresh cream and Josh chopped up the strawberries, cherries and blackberries! I melted chocolate and we finished the day off with a heavenly treat!

Wonderful, relaxing and fabulous day! Ellie and Josh are just beautiful!

Leeds to Whistable to Broadstairs

I came to hang out with some friends from Australia in Leeds, England this evening :0) Ellie & Josh. Ellie and I worked together in Australia and her and Josh are now working and living in England. Tomorrow I am going to check out the open market and then busk on the street with Josh (saxophone & guitar). It should be great fun.

Friday I am heading to Whistable to see the Leddys and my friend Dixie. This Saturday and Sunday I will head to a Lyon's event in Whitstable and hopefully play some music there. Monday I will head up to the Broadstairs Folk Festival and play an open floor spot. Maybe something really good will come out of it. I will play a few shows on the coast and see how it goes.

The sunshine today was a very welcomed blessing.

Today I recorded 3 new songs in Leeds, England, with Ben & Paul.

We have 13 songs for the new album & we may make it 14 tomorrow :0)

I just visited some friends up in Retford this weekend. Check out their music-Ross Spencer and Alexandra Spencer. They are fabulously creative folks!

So, what do I do now? Play, tour, see friends, do more booking, go to folk festivals and check out the scene here? Decisions, decisions...but I am very thankful for all that God has provided.

Stratford UA->Birmingham->to Retford England

This morning I slept in....needed it so much. After breakfast I hung out with a cool man, Donald and his lovely wife, Nicky. They were my hosts for 2 days. I organized some details/plans for the next few days then went over to the SOZO Festival to hug folks and to say goodbye to them.

After dinner with Donald and Nicky (wonderful dinner with ice cream, chocolate sauce & a yummy peppermint patty), we said our goodbyes and we rushed over to the train station. I took the train into Birmingham and then waited their for my friend Ross to "collect" me.

We went to a cool Stag party for about 20 minutes in Moseley, and then headed to Nottingham to pick up his sis and 3 children. We made it to Redford quite late this evening and then chatted over cheese and toast.

Bing bing bing, that is about all that is in my head at this point. I am content, but exhausted. The Sozo Festival was great today! Playing tonight for the people was tons of fun. Tomorrow I am heading off & hugging the SOZO folks. It's been wonderful. I am heading up near Sheffield to hopefully see a friend so that I can stare at the wall for a few days to recover from this 65 days of travel/playing.

On Monday and Tuesday I will be recording 2 more songs for the new album up in Leeds again!

So many good things have happened, but I need a massage because I am weary and tense from all of this luggage lugging!

Hey! This is the 3rd time that I have come to the SOZO Festival. It is such an awesome festival! I love it. This year it is in Stratford Upon Avon. In the past it was in Hungary.

missed my bus & was given a new iPhone....normal day..ha!

This morning I missed my bus in Canterbury...the internet wasn't working, then when it was working the printer wouldn't work :o( Since you HAVE to print off your ticket I was kind of stuck. So when I got to the station the bus was driving away...I was frustrated and wanted to cry...but I didn't. Marketa (a very nice girl from the Czech Republic) made sure that all was well.

I walked over to McDonalds with my luggage to use the internet to book another ticket. So, I booked new tickets (had to pay twice, ughhh!) and took the next bus to London and then to Birmingham. I am heading up to Stratford Upon Avon in the morning to play the SOZO Festival. All kinds of folks come from many many nations to this festival. It is such a cool environment there.

So, on my second bus I talked with a very interesting person...from Dubai. We talked for a few hours, then he said that he wanted to give me a gift. Um...so he got a brand new iPhone out of his bag of gifts and insisted on giving it to me!!! Amazing! I tried to give it back several times and I was speechless. He insisted that I keep it and said that I was so nice and that it was just really good to talk to someone.

Now I am in Birmingham staying with some cool folks :0)

House Concert in Lausanne, Switzerland!

Greetings from England! I just got some photos from the house concert that I played on Friday in Lausanne, Switzerland. Almost the entire audience was French (actually from France) and it was a fun night. I met tons of beautiful people with big hearts! Here are some of the pics that they took!

Cast Your Net on the Other Side..

I am back on the east coast of England, where I started, in Whistable. I am exhausted but very thankful. Today on the train and then coach ride home, I was praying in my head....for wisdom and direction about whether I should stay in England a month longer or head home. All along the trip, I've thought that I will stay until the end of August.

After finding out that it will cost at least 300 dollars just to change my departure date, I started reconsidering 2 weeks ago. Then today when I thinking about it and praying about it...I kept hearing "cast your net on the other side in my head/heart". So, then I thought of the Bible story where the trained fisherman weren't catching fish and Jesus said to cast their nets on the other side. Even though this didn't make any sense to them, they obeyed and they caught tons of fish. (thanks for the insight on that Kevin :0)

So, I am not sure where that leaves me in my decision...I think that I need some clarification. If you have any feedback or ideas about it, please just comment and let me know.

Grub Cafe-Steven Price is awesome!

I am in East Grinstead, West Sussex, England, 10 minutes from the Gatwick/London airport. Tonight I played at the Grub cafe. I arrived at 8am this morning. Steven, the owner of the Grub Cafe came to the rescue with his generosity :0) He gave me some food, drink, and a place to sleep at his place for the day. I needed the rest because I flew in from Geneva, Switzerland from a show last night, and had no chance to sleep last night.

So, after sleeping 7 1/2 hours I felt like a new person. I came out to the Grub Cafe for the show. Amanda Shaw played first in the night. She is a lovely girl and a beautiful singer/songwriter. The audience was warm and stuck around through the night!

My first French-speaking-audience-concert

Man! I played my first-french-speaking-audience last night :0) Noemmie booked a house concert with. me. She is French & she lives in Lyon...very lovely woman. The show was in an old restored farm house in Lausanne, Switzerland, but almost every person there is from France or lives in France. It was gorgeous to be immersed in the beautiful language of French...no complaints from me. I learned a lot! Hopefully I won't forget it.

So, I need to sleep now...I am in England, right outside of London...show tonight :0)

After sleeping in quite late today, I went to the train station with Raphael to meet up with an Australian friend of mine, Gail. She is traveling on an Around-The-World ticket. Adventure. We shared a coffee. Raphael and I headed to his office to brainstorm some ideas for the new website and new CD booklet.

We went back to the house and I got to hang out with his wife Katja and their sweet baby, Tea (Tay-a). Here is a photo of us :0) She is SOOO beautiful! Finally, I was able to load the video from the BBC Radio interview in Cambridge, England. Sue Marchant interviewed me and I played a new song from my soon to be released album, Liberty Spoke to Me'. The song is called 'Stranded in Nostalgia'. Drew Nelson , an Americana-Folk artist from the US was also on the show in the same night. He tours quite a bit in the UK. He is a really cool guy and has stunning music.

The concert last night in Rothenburg ob der Tauber went really great!! Lots of people came early in the evening (200-300) . I don't know...estimating numbers isn't a talent of mine. There was this cool Canadian guy, Caleb, that met me before the show. He plays lots of instruments...and VERY well, I must say. So I asked him to join me for the concert. He played lead guitar or bass on almost all of my songs. It added SO much. Also, Sebastian, a cool German guy, also joined us on the cajon (percussion) on a few songs earlier in the evening. It is just really cool to jam with people like them.

In the evening, some folks drew a massive picture with ink on canvas. They drew it sideways for the audience & at the end they turned it right-side up. It was a moving picture of Jesus.

Today was a whirlwind in a very good way. I slept in (good start), then met up with the lovely Bolko (friend & promoter for the show) and his nephew Daniel. We had a quick lunch and then joined the 82 year old 'Willi' for his birthday party. After that we went back to the host family where I was staying (they are REALLY awesome and beautiful people). I packed up my stuff, did a quick photo-session with all of the good folks there, Hans came to pick me up, we said our goodbyes, drove 3 hours to Switzerland to the village of Lohn, which has 600 inhabitants.

We stopped in at the village restaurant and had some meatloaf, noodles, salad, coffee and dessert. The owner and his family run the restaurant. Since they don't have many outsiders/foriengers come through town, they thought that it was SO cool that I was from Nashville, TN. So, the owner wanted to buy a CD from me. I played a song on the guitar for the guests there and they invited me to come back soon to play a concert on their stage. Everyone knows everyone here. It is just so new to me. I love it. I had never been in such a small community before. Fabulous! Hans and I said our goodbyes and headed towards the car.

Hans saw some friends on the balcony beside the parking lot and they were celebrating a birthday. They wanted us to come on up. They asked me to sing HAppy BiRthdaY and one of my songs. Seriously, it was such a cool day. I am so thankful for it. One guy at the party pulled out his photo book and showed me photos from when he went to the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville in 1980. That was just sweet. :o)

So, Hans and I headed to his house and I found out that HE has such a better music collection than me. He is cool. We had a glass of wine and some schinken (German smoked ham), and then he headed to bed.

That was the day...a whirlwind, but so wonderful. I miss someone right now. I got a cool note today that really made me smile. Life is good. Now, if I could just get a massage to remove all of the pain in my body from dragging my luggage around...

Worn Out->Heading to BaVaRia!

Hallo! Tomorrow I am heading out to Bayern/Bavaria. I spent about 6 hours last night & about 10 hours today working on travel details & music biz stuff. I am worn out...mentally from all of the details and physically from dragging my suitcase and guitar around.

It has been really good to be around Dee and Eva (my friends here in Mannheim). They are fabulous people. Dee Rosario is a very talented guitarist. He has toured as part of ADK in Germany for quite a while & now he has a studio in Heidelberg, Germany. If you are looking for a rockin' guitarist (esp. rock/funk, but he can play all styles) look him up-> www.deerosario.de He also engineers & produces. Oh yeah.

Well, I am worn out from the traveling, even though I love meeting new people and learning new things every day.

Hallo from Mannheim, Deutschland! I left Ilona and Bernie's place and took a train headed to Mannheim. Yesterday, I sat in the park for a few hours playing and this Italian guy was clapping for me. I wrote a bit about him in the past blog.

Today I was in the studio in Heidelberg with my good friend Dee Rosario. He is a fabulous guitarist, producer, and engineer! I will tell you more about him tomorrow. We were in his studio today checking out the mixes and such. We are heading back into the studio tomorrow, so I will post a little video.

P.S.-German beer, coffee and chocolate ain't bad...lemme tell ya! They are amazin', in fact :0)

A long day

Man! Today I walked around the world...at least it felt that way. I got up @ 8am and then went with my friend Ilona to Marburg to see an old friend (and fabulous bass player) Manuel. Then I took the train to Frankfurt, had an hour layover, and then I took a train to Mannheim. I walked around Mannheim for a few hours carrying my guitar. An Italian guy, Angelo, wanted to play my guitar, so I let him. He played "nothing else matters" "let it be" and some Italian songs. I walked back to the train station where my friend Dee picked me up and took me to the house (Dee & Eva's). Eva and I caught up for quite a while over some Bruschetta. Tomorrow Dee and I will be in the studio in Heidelberg. Should be fun!

It's been a long long day...so, I am checkin out now.

I was in the studio with a great producer, Frank Pilsl, this past week in Stuttgart, Germany. He is pretty awesome. He produced one of my favorite German artists, Philipp Poisel. We had lunch, chatted about what I would like to do and about what he could imagine to do. Then we went over to his & Jens' cool studio that was packed with all kinds of vintage gear. We tracked two acoustic recordings just to hear how it sounded. Here is a photo and a quick video of being in the studio with him.

Stuttgart->Wetzlar

Hey! Last night was so much fun! I was hanging out with my friend Flo, and many folks from the neighborhood. We were having a huge cookout with steaks, salad, grilled veggies & then crepes! Of course there was some German bier, as well. It is an annual tradition for these neighbors. I was befriended by some awesome German kids who wanted to be launched into the couch and tickled and chased around the yard/house. We played music out by the fire with an upright bass, saxaphone, acoustic guitars, and a cajon (percussion). We all stayed up talking and eating chocolate by the fire until the early morning hours. It was really a fabulous night.

Today, I had breakfast, packed and said goodbye to my new friends there. Flo took me to the train station. I headed towards Stuttgart, then to Frankfurt, passed through Giessen and arrived safely in Wetzlar. My friends Ilona and Berni came to pick me up at the station. We haven't seen each other in years. They are SO lovely! We had dinner at the house and talked and talked and laughed by candlelight until it was time to sleep. Ilona and I joked around in the kitchen, just catching up on the silliness that we both have seemed to miss (ballet dancing & general nonsense).

Well, tomorrow I am exploring Frankfurt a bit with Ilona. It's good to be in Germany!

I just wanted to post a few pics from the Provisorium show that I played yesterday with Florian Ostertag. Today in the studio with Frank Pilsl was really cool. We recorded two rough tracks with me and guitar. We also got to listen to the final mixes for the album that Ben Mosley sent :0) He did an amazing job recording the songs and allowing them to sound so natural and warm.

Ah, the show with Flo tonight was really great! His music is really sincere and beautiful...meditative almost. He played with Bennie who was on keys and sound effects. They created loops while playing and it was really cool.

The audience was so good to me. They asked for 2 encores...hahah. I am always really thankful and really surprised when people do that. Some good friends surprised me and came to the show.-the Krusche family! That was cool.

Well, right now my family is flying out from North Carolina (east coast) to Los Angeles (west coast) for a wedding that I wish I could go to. I hope they send some great photos my way.

So, in the morning I am going with Florian Ostertag to the studio and then I am meeting up with Frank P. a producer here in Germany that I think is pretty awesome. We are going to jam and record a bit and see what we come up with. I am excited and curious.

Show @ Provisorium near Stuttgart-in Neurtingen-with Florian Ostertag July 9th

Germany is a cool place. I am getting into the flow of things :0) The German train system is pretty cool...mostly very clean, comfortable trains, on-time, and affordable. Plus, you get to see the beautiful countryside and landscape along the way.

So, I arrived safely in Notzingen, and had a fabulous evening hanging out with Chris & Frank for dinner at an Italian place & then coming back to the house and hanging with Benjamin & Flo, too. We celebrated Frank's birthday before closing the night and opening his birthday with a toast!

So, Thursday (tomorrow), July 9th at the Provisorium in Neurtingen, Germany @ 7:30 Florian Ostertag and I will play a concert. We talked about wearing capes & super-hero outfits ( I wanted to be Wonder Woman) for the show. Perhaps we will do that in some form..it would be funny. Either way it should be a fun show. So, come on out if you are in the area!

Experiencing Culture Shock

So many wonderful moments have occurred since I have been in Germany in the last few days. I got to see my old friend, Juergen, played a concert to a very cool audience in Gernsbach, Enrico & friend recorded the concert and made a live CD for me, I took nice walks through the laid-back town, had dinner with some cool folks tonight who made lasange and jammed afterwards...all of these things have been great.

However, I am experiencing a slight case of culture shock. Germans are very honest and sometimes their directness is a bit too much for a sensitive soul like me. So, I need a few days to adjust. I really love the Germans....love the country. I've lived in Germany many many times over the last 9 years and it's been wonderful. It's easy to forget the differences between countries and to prepare for them mentally. Well, give me a few days and I think I will have myself sorted.

HaHAAA! Also, I didn't give much thought to the fact that I would be speaking in German through my concert on Sunday, beforehand. I used to do it without much problem. I didn't think about the fact that I hadn't spoken German in two years...so, I was laughing at myself during the concert and at my lack of fluency in talking from stage. It's fabulous that I now have a live CD to document my shining German language skills! haha.

All is well. Tomorrow I am boarding a train and heading to Stuttgart. Florian Ostertag and myself are playing a show at the Provisorium in Neurtingen on Thursday at 7:30pm. (He is awesome, check out his music)

Alle Meine Entchen-All my little ducks

Today the sun was shining. That is always a good start for me. Warm weather is like honey to me..rich, thick and it makes everything sweeter. I sat in the sun today with my acoustic guitar and sang a bit. Two little German children wandered around to where I was singing. The little 3 year old girl with curly blond locks and bright blue eyes was so cute that my heart melted. She was with her brother, who was 5, and he was a handsome little man! They shyly approached me and then once I offered for them to strum my guitar, they were excited and unafraid.

So, I moved my fingers for the chords and they strummed the guitar. I sang the children's song Alle meine Entchen with them, since it's the only German children's song that I know. They sang with me and I felt like Maria from "The Sound of Music"...haha!!! I was sitting on the edge of the hill overlooking the beautiful surrounding hills in the village and singing with these cute kids. Their grandmother came along and joined in, too.

Sweet sweet memory.

I am listening now to the mixes of the new songs for my new album "Liberty Spoke to Me". I am trying to get these songs out so you can hear them very soon!

The Gernsbach show today was lots of fun! Great people and two encores :0) The engineers also recorded a LIVE CD at the show. I will post more details on that later.

My good friend Juergen, who also booked the concert, showed me around the city of Gernsbach. We had crepes and ice cream, then walked around, ate dinner @ a very German restaurant with cool German napkins (see photo).

HaPpY Independence DAY!

Hello Hello! I arrived safely in Germany and I am at my good friend, Jürgen's house. He picked me up at the airport! I left England to celebrate independence from England...funny! I had some videos from the 4th of July fireworks that I watched two years ago in Germany on my German cell phone. So, on the 2 hour drive to Gernsbach in the car, I watched 4th of July fireworks on my phone and cheered..not quite the same extraordinary celebration that some of you had tonight, but it made me smile :o)

It's GREAT to be in Germany. Sleeping is about to happen in 5 minutes...got a show tomorrow!

Heading to Deutschland for Part II of the Tour

Hey! Tonight in the studio was quite productive. Ben managed to get 5 songs to their final mix tonight (after days of tweaking)! Fabulous! He is really patient. Tomorrow we plan on finishing up the final 4 songs and printing a master for me to take to Germany. I will get the album mastered and printed in Germany :0)

Well, I am flying via Ryan Air to Frankfurt-Hahn airport in Germany tomorrow evening. My good friend Jürgen is picking me up at the airport and we are heading to the Black Forest. I am playing a show there on Sunday afternoon.

So, tonight was a good chilled out night with beer, good deep conversation and good Thai food that I made last night. Ben showed me some photos from the SOZO festival in Hungary that we both went to a few years ago.

After the show on Sunday, I can put up a few photos & videos from this past week and from the show. I can't wait to post some of the new songs from the new record for you to hear. I would love to get your feedback.

Well, I am heading off to sleep...much to do in the morning. I am missing Nashville quite a bit.

Greetings from Leeds!

Today Ben was mixing the rest of the tunes for the new album! He is making goodness! We are nearing the finish line. "Liberty Spoke to Me" is almost done!! Whoo-hoo. I will post the songs up on facebook & myspace when I can. The CD will be available via CD Baby and iTunes as well as at my live shows.

Tonight, Paul and Ben and I were hanging out a bit. We cooked yummy thai food and had southern banana pudding :0) (a very quick version of it, rather). Paul played us a few of his tunes on the guitar and they were beautiful! If I would have known what a great voice he had I would have urged him to sing with me on the album!

Well, most of the day for me was spent in introspection and frustrations with parts of life that I can't seem to get. Also, I was concentrating, trying to book an airline ticket/train ticket to Germany for Saturday. So, the stress of booking various flights when they are all in British Pounds gets to me....of course because they are super expensive. Yikes!

So I called my mom and chatted with her for a bit. She is SOOO good! I am really blessed to have her in my life. She always knows what to say, even when I am a blubbering mess and don't seem to make any sense. My friend Hannah told me once that a truly good friend is one that can listen to all of the details, emotions and such that seem all chaotic, and hand them back to you all in the right order. My mom does that. She amazes me. The fact that I can talk to her via Skype and look into her ever-understanding eyes is such a comfort. Thanks mom!!

Well, my younger sis then told me that she recommends cartwheels in combatting stress. She had the urge the other day and she just felt better after. It seems really easy to get caught up in "doing-things" "being-busy" "staying focused and productive", but it is also difficult to remember that we also need to take time to recover...to take a break..to do something silly...to do something that is just freeing. Like walking, drawing in the sand, coloring, sitting in the sun, or like my sis suggested, doing cartwheels.

So, tomorrow I am gonna start my day out with cartwheels & star-jumps. Try it out, too, and let me know if it does you some good.

Mixing the NEW ALBUM

So, I am back in Leeds, England. Ben Mosely and I were working on the mix tonight for a few hours. Six of the ten songs are almost finished. Tomorrow evening we will mix the last 4, and then head to the studio on Friday to master the album. I am really excited about this new album, "Liberty Spoke to Me" (title for now...still thinking). As soon as the mixes are done I will post some of the tunes up on myspace for you hear.

On July 4th I won't be seeing any fireworks :0( but, I will be heading to Germany. Please say a prayer for me for the album, my travel to Germany, and this new section of the tour. Germany & Switzerland, ready or not, here I come!

I Refuse to Live in Fear

If you listen to the media, chances are you will get a heavy dose of all of the scary, awful and tragic things going on in our world. Marinading in that day-in and day out can really alter your sense of safety, security and your ability to be at ease.

Well, I believe that fear is the opposite of love. Fears, (such as insecurities, compulsions to control, paranoia, fear of failure, fear of someone becoming more than you are), can rob you of joy, happiness, security and love and can also, in-turn, damage others around you. There have been many times in my life where fear has halted me from going after something that I truly wanted or stolen my courage to walk forward towards what my heart ached for. I refuse to live in fear.

I choose LOVE. That is what I want to live in. I want to always live in love...not in fear. Whether it's hugging people, listening, giving them help whether it's money or a lift to work, cooking a meal for someone, complimenting them, encouraging them, being patient...The more that I learn to walk in love and not in fear, the more I am amazed at the rewards that follow this kind of living. Loving someone purely can dissolve past wounds & scars, it can encourage others to follow what is in their heart because they know that they have your support. Love can reverse damage and bring tons of joy. I pray that I will learn more and more about how to love.

Today was cool for many reasons:

1. I went to a cool church and saw my new friend Maggie preach. She spoke about being generous, consistent and about having good character.

2. Met some cool American and Danish people & went to a Chinese (now British) woman's place for lunch and I got to hold a sweet 5 month old baby for a long time :0)

3. Went to my new friend Dave's Birthday party and sat on a blanket in the garden jamming with 4 guitars to Dylan, Paul Simon and a few other greats. The community I've been longing for. Refreshing!

4. Played a gig at Queens' College with Malcolm Guite (he's a fabulous poet/singer/songwriter!!!) . Click here to hear his music. We each did a set and then sang a few together spontaneously. He did some of his stunning poetry, told a story about his poetic hero that he met today, we walked home with two guitars in the basket of a bicycle and then finished the evening off with Indian order-in at the house.

Fabulous day...I am exhausted. BBC Radio Monday evening. Yes, please.

Dropping my toothbrush for the 100th time!

So, folks!~ Howdy from Cambridge...that just sounds wrong, doesn't it. Well, let me tell you what is actually wrong..hehhe :0) It is wrong that there aren't any countertops in the bathrooms in England. I mean, I love almost everything I've experienced in England, but I have dropped my toothbrush for about the 100th time. Basically, there is always just a free standing sink, which is perfectly functional...except that there isn't any top space to put toiletries, toothbrushes, etc while you are using the sink. Therefore, I have balanced my toothbrush on the edge of the sink while washing my face (every morning and night...of course, because I am a person of hygiene..hehhe :0) and it never fails, I always bump it while I have my eyes closed and it hits the floor..and there is none of that restaurant "two-second" rule thing, because I am usually in the middle of washing the soap out of my eyes, so it's on the ground for approximately 10 seconds. (all of this info IS important, there will be a QUIZ later).

Anyhow, so, I guess if I was a freak about germs I would have purchased lots of toothbrushes already...but since I am not, I just rinse it off and keep on going. My theory is that ingesting germs as regularly as possible builds up the immune system...so, what I am trying to say, is that one day I will actually be encouraging my kids to eat dirt & such! Wonderful! Now that we've got that sorted, off to another topic.

The Acoustic Routes show @ CB2 was lots of fun tonight! I even was given some extra unexpected money. Cool blessing! Edwina Hayes (check her out) http://www.edwinahayes.com was fabulous! We hung out after the show and we are trying to play a little more together while I am in England. Pavlov's Cat was also brilliant! Very beautiful and heartfelt music.

BBC Radio Cambridge rescheduled my live interview for this coming Monday! Yea!

Well folks, sad news today about Michael Jackson dying. Here is a little tribute to Michael Jackson. I have always loved the Jackson 5. In College I used to include Michael Jackson in my prayers...because I felt like it must be hard to grow up in "show business", not knowing who is your friend because your are "somebody", or who is your friend because they love the real you. I know, there's been lots of negative press on MJ, but he is truly a musical inspiration.

Promoters Taking Advantage of Artists

It's late and I am exhausted, but I wanted to quickly state something. I have had SOOO many great experiences with venues and promoters. I am very grateful for the kindness and hospitality that I have been shown. That's been such a blessing.

However, for the few times that I have not been treated as kindly, I would like to say something. "I think that it is absolutely ridiculous for promoters to take advantage of artists by-making money off of them and not paying them, by treating them like they should work for free, and by assuming that it would be such a privilege to play an establishment, and for treating them as if the venue has done them a favor to let them volunteer their services. Respect artists! Pay artists! They deserve it."

Artist's write the songs, play the instruments, travel to the location & possibly drag around heavy equipment, think about what to wear, what songs to play, what to say between songs, record and pay for CDs, practice with other musicians and teach the other musicians the songs, bring folks to the establishment to watch the show, promote the show, book the show, do the research to even find out about the venue, talk with folks after the show, print flyers, get photos for the flyers, and not to mention that they have to get up in front of unknown people and expose their heart, then pack up their stuff, book a train, plane, bus, or get mapquest directions to get home to unpack and do it all again....and on and on. I am not at all complaining about the job. I love doing music.

So, for crying out loud, treat artists with respect and pay them for their services. Otherwise, don't invite them to your establishment. Set up a karaoke machine or a jukebox. Now, I am off the Soapbox :)

Bus to London-Tonight-Cavendish Arms

Man, today was a whirlwind of emotions, GEEZ.

I said goodbye to Leeds and the cool people there (sad), got on a bus heading to London (tired/expectant), dragged my luggage around on the London buses trying to find the music venue (lost), found the venue (very happy), played for the folks at Cavendish Arms-London and they gave me SUCH a warm reception (elated), my friend Christina from Germany that I haven't seen in 6 years showed up to the gig (very surprised), the venue owners were being very non-compassionate about me leaving before the last act was done so that I could catch my bus and not get stranded in London in the middle of the night (upset/crying), Christina drove me to the train station and we bought my train ticket for an hour and a half to Whistable @ 11pm (relieved).

See what I mean...lots of emotions in one day. I am spent. So, when I am tired and worn out I start thinking that things are falling apart (girl/musician(can)=emotional). BUT, then I thought about all of the fabulous things that have happened! I just finished a whole freaking album this past week and I had LOADS of fun recording with Paul, Ben and Kenny. Also, I played a show and it went really really well. Also, so many people were extremely helpful to me all along the way. When I start thinking about all of the lovely people that I have met and how gracious they have been to me during my stay here, I become more and more grateful.

Tracking the songs LIVE

Today started out in the studio with Ben and Paul tracking percussion & Kenny laying down some bass parts. Then I started in doing a few harmonies on the tunes. Then Paul and I ended up tracking two new tunes-Going, Going, Gone & Only in You. Sweet!

I am really stoked about the songs and how they are coming together. These guys are fabulous! They are making the songs shine! We've recorded the drums, my acoustic guitar/or piano and vocal simultaneously for the "live" feel! Today we filmed a few of the takes and I will put them up on YouTube tomorrow.

Goodnight!! The Album is coming together! We are tracking the last two songs on Friday :0)

British Folks+Making Music in England=Fabulous! Yes yes! It's absolutely true! I am really glad to be here in Leeds. I sure wouldn't mind living in England someday for a while :0)
Today in the studio was lovely. We tracked 2 piano songs and one guitar song-Fire in the Night, I Am Yours & Loud and Clear. I'm exhausted, but so thankful and happy. The guys that I am working with (Ben Mosely, Paul & Kenny) are good folks-lovely to be around and to work with. I am fortunate & grateful. I can't wait to let you hear the new tunes!!!

Stroppy & Cheeky are great words. FYI.

Oh, and hug someone, tell them you love them...you could get slapped, but you could feel da love! Obviously I am delirious, so I am going to sleep now.

What Would Title My New Album?

Greetings to you! Thanks for reading. I was supposed to go into the studio today, but I was feeling pretty under the weather. Ben (friend and recording engineer) went into the studio and added some lead guitar and got Paul to track the drums for the 3 songs that we did on Monday. He brought the tracks home for me to hear. These songs have a real life and uplifting feel to them. Tomorrow I am heading into the studio to track some more tunes-"Only in You", "My Bags Are Packed" and "Loud & Clear" and perhaps more, depending on how the day progresses.

So, I am thinking about different titles for the album. What would you title the new album? I am recording in Leeds, England. I was just curious to know what you would name it...something based off of the songs on it...or just some random-inspired idea. I want to hear what you would call it :0) Here is a list of the potential songs to give you an idea. Please just comment at the bottom with your album title.

3 New Songs! Studio, check 1, 2

It was a really lovely day-Sun shining down for the early part. Ben and I sat on the lawn and had a coffee, then off to start recording. The beginning was slow going for me...Once I got into a groove (a few hours in..haha) we got several great takes of 3 new songs! We tracked vocals and guitar for "Stranded in Nostalgia", "I Will Trust You", and "Liberty Spoke to Me". Here are a few pics. I will get some video footage this week and put it up for ya. I've been sneezing all day...so please say a prayer that my body stays healthy. Thanks a ton!

UP the HILL in OTLEY

Hey! I am in Otley, England, in Yorkshire, right outside of Leeds. My friend, Ben, came home tonight and we hiked up a massive hill. I found out that I am out of shape, and he seemed patient with my whining :0) It was a stunning view at the top of the hill.

In the morning we will head into the studio and start recording. First, we have to stop and get some fruit, cheese and snacks for the studio. Gotta have the snacks!

Taking Candy from Strangers & National Express Trip

Greetings from Leeds, England (close to it, that is)! JJ & the family took me to Canterbury this morning. Then I took a National Express Bus Trip from Canterbury to London to Leeds and then out to Otley. I'll be doing some recordings with my friend Ben Mosely up here.

It was a long drive-6 hours. On the last bus an elderly lady named "Brenda" started talking with me. That was great! She noticed my guitar and my semi-big suitcase and she said, "My, you are heavy laiden". All I could think of was a Bible verse about "All ye who are heavy laided, come unto me and I will give you rest" However, she didn't go into that, hehe. She was in her 70s and a very classy looking women.

Then, she did the unthinkable!!! She handed me candy..not just any candy..but a licorice/menthol hard candy and she said "sweets?" Now, I know that you aren't supposed to take candy from strangers (hehe) but I was conflicted because she was SO kind (attention *children, do not follow this example and take candy from strangers please. Thanks). So, I said "thank you very much". (extra information-*although, I appreciated the gesture, I do not necessarily recommend any candy that is a combo of licorice and menthol) :0)

Then 10 minutes later she gave me another one and told me to keep it for later. I felt weird, so I pulled out the Rhubard/Custard Hard Candies that I bought and gave her one. "Oh dear, you didn't have to do that" and then she smiled and said "Cheers!" and took one. On her way out of the bus I smiled, gave her a bag that she almost left behind, and then watched her pause and give a licorice candy to the bus driver. She waved to me from outside the bus.

I finally made it to my awaited bus stop. I had the printed out walking directions from my friend to the house. So, I was lugging my suitcase and guitar up the hill and through a supermarket parking lot. People were staring at me..some scratching their head and some like "what in the samhill?"...it's was a funny journey. Mission accomplished. I am hear. Let the recordings being!

Nudist Colony? I am naive.

Greetings to you from Whistable, England! I am still enjoy this lovely seaside town. It reminds me a lot of Emerald Isle, North Carolina. Today, my new friend Dixie (see photo :o), took me for a tour of the Whistable art shops/galleries, handmade jewelry shops & took me by the Whitstable Playhouse Theatre. We went through a tiny ally-way called "squeeze gut alley" where you literally have to suck in to pass people in it. Dixie and I talked about life, relationships, music and traveling over a coffee, and then at her house over a cup of tea. I let her pick out a pair of earrings from my "jewelry collection" (that sounds formal) and she gave me a whole bag of fixings to make more earrings with! Glorious! Plus, she let me have this wonderful folk music magazine that tells the info for all of the folk festivals & music happenings in England! Thank you Dixie! You are the best!

So, Dixie was the one who invited me to the Faversham Folk Club this week. We were sitting next to some very lovely people. They were a couple perhaps in their 50-60s. We started chatting and then went to go and get a drink in the intermission. The husband of the couple was telling me about this fabulous place that they went to in West Virginia to camp. He said that they were naturists. Great, I thought! They love nature. So, I ask "so, do you study nature or do you just like to camp out in the woods?" He responded, "Well, do you know what a naturist is?" I said, "not really". He said, "In the US you call them "nudists". We like to hang out in the nude". "That's great", I said with a face a little blushed. Yea, awkward moment. I felt just a little NAIVE. He was great fun. I love learning new terminology & walking into awkward conversations! --makes life interesting!

Well, I am catching a bus early in the morning heading north to Leeds, England to get ready to record the new album!! Thanks for reading!
