The Two Sawyers & Whitstable Labour Club

AH! I am exhausted but exhilarated! The shows today were tons of fun.  Nigel Hobbins & the Backroom Boys had asked me to come and play a set with them at the Whitstable Labour Club this evening.  I am SO glad they did.  I pretty much smiled through their whole first set because it was beautiful, authentic, full, rich, real, tangible & filled with heart!  I will post some videos up tomorrow because right now I'm exhausted.  Some great friends came to see me play-thanks JJ, Matt, Justin, Elena, Alex, Mark & Sean!  My set was great because Martin joined me on fiddle for the songs!  Click here to see more photos, please :0)

In the late evening I headed to "The Two Sawyers" club in Canterbury to play a set.  Mark & Sean also played a set.  Sean played mandolin with me on"Stranded in Nostalgia" & "Going, Going, Gone" and Mark played harmonica with me on "Fly With Me". The last artist of the evening brought me up on stage with a few other people to sing with him on cue!  It was pretty awesome, especially because he was wearing a skirt...like a kilt! Fabulous!

It was a great day! Man, I never want to take these opportunities & experiences for granted.  I am so grateful for these times! Thanks God! You created SO many different/unique people! I am amazed just taking in your intricate & complex creation!

Tour Starts Tomorrow/Photos of the Canterbury Cathedral

Greetings to you!

The tour kicks off tomorrow!!! Yep, that's right.  I am playing a show with 

the Nigel Hobbins band at "The Labour Club" on Belmont Street, Whistable, England.  I can't wait! I will post some photos and videos of the folks there and the show for you.  Thanks for coming along and being a part of this adventure!

Today was lovely...except the 7:15 am wake up.  Me=not an early morning riser.  I headed down to Canterbury with Matt & Justin, grabbed a coffee, met a cool street musician named Mark who was playing Harvest Moon by Neil Young, and then hung out with Matt and 7 year old Justin touring around the massive and beautiful Canterbury Cathedral.  Click here to see the photos.  

Then we went to an art store to pick up some canvas, brushes and paint.  I am painting one or two paintings for the friends that I am staying with.  I will post some photos of them and you can let me know what you think. You can see many of my paintings by clicking here.

Whitstable Folk Night-New Videos

Hey You!

I've just posted several new short videos from the Whitstable Folk Night last night of the folks singing during the open mic session before the full show started.  It's SOOO cool that I almost cried because these guys are singing traditional English songs and it was the epitome of a full-on cultural experience...so, cool! Check out the guy with the pewter beer mug in hand, long beard and vest.  Also, I posted a video of me getting lost on the way home walking uphill with my guitar!  The quality of the videos are funny because I recorded them with the only thing available...my mobile phone.

In the morning I am headed to see the Canterbury Cathedral and the theatre in Whitstable.  I will post some pics for you to see.  I met this wonderful folk music-lover named Dixie at the Folk Night. She is taking me to the theatre!

Busking, Getting Lost, & Destiny all collide for a happy Canterbury Tale!

A Canterbury Tale*

Today it was sunny in Whitstable, England...so I decided to travel over to Canterbury and try busking (playing music) in the downtown area. I sang for an hour and a half...made about $22 (with conversion), met some really nice people, got sweet words from the folks listening and passing by, got a contact for a recording studio in town that I read about in the paper, and had a nice day in the sun. 

So, I bought some fries and a cappuccino with some of the money I made...ok, two cappuccinos...and then I bought a mystery bus ticket back to Whitstable (mystery bus- because I had NO idea which bus to take and how to get home once I got there).  A pleasant lady informed me of which bus to take and the bus driver told me which way to walk to get home...haha...WELL, I got lost.

But all was not lost, because it was destiny for me to get lost! Haha! Well, sort of :)  I walked into a little pub to ask directions. I looked up at the poster on the window and saw that this pub was actually the pub that I had hoped to go and see the folk festival on thursday night (I had seen posters everywhere the week before). And guess what??? Today was Thursday! It also happened to be 30 minutes before the show started AND I had my guitar with me since I was busking earlier.  The ticket taker asked me if I was there to play.  I said, "I don't know, can I play?"  So, long story short, I ended up playing two songs, the people were so great to me, the other folks music was fantastic, and I got two future gigs out of playing my songs!!! Sweet.

In the last few days I was feeling a little down...didn't know what to do with myself...but, I seriously got my fix with the music tonight!  Like oxygen filling my lungs with power! (I know that I am a bit dramatic, but it was such a lovely day) It's cool that we are all made with a passion...one that can be fed, one that can grow, one that we can follow after.  Whether it's helping others, growing something, making something, inventing things, fixing things...Music is that for me...it breathes life into me.  I hope for you that you have found your passion, or that it is right around the corner about to illuminate you any second.  I pray that for you.

A Trifle

Greetings! Last month my little sister graduated from undergrad, had a birthday, packed and moved to a new city and started grad school.  She's pretty great!  Well, for her birthday, I made her a trifle.  I didn't know what that was to begin with..but one of my sisters had a good recipe and my mom passed it on to me.  It's a perfect summer dessert, it's easy to make, and it tastes SOOO good!

Maybe you are heading to a picnic, a cookout, a celebration of some sort and you want to bring a dessert. Try this one if you like :0)

15-minute Strawberry-Blueberry Pudding Trifle

1/2 frozen pound cake, cut in cubes  
1 container Cool Whip Topping, thawed 

1 block of cream cheese
1 package Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix, prepared (4 servings) 
2 1/2 cups sliced strawberries 

2 1/2 cups bluberries
1/4 cup sugar 
6 baker's white chocolate baking squares, grated 
1 whole strawberry (for garnish) 

(you can also drizzle the poundcake cubes with liqueur or juice)

Prepare pudding mix then beat the cream cheese into the pudding until smooth 
Fold 1/2 cup whipped topping into prepared pudding. 
Sprinkle strawberries with sugar. 
Assemble trifle by layering into deep glass bowl, 

half each of cake cubes, pudding mixture, strawberries, bluberries and chocolate. 
Repeat layers, ending with chocolate. 
Top with additional whipped topping; garnish with additional whole berries. 
Chill.

Canterbury

Today I walked through the streets of Canterbury for a little while...beautiful historic buildings, lots of young people, little bridges over a stream, cafes and musicians playing in the street.  I had dinner at a nice Indian restaurant with some great friends.

Tomorrow I am heading out to Canterbury to play a bit of music on the streets :0) I'll have to take some photos of the city for you.  I don't often play on the streets, but I thought that it might be a lot of fun.  Maybe I'll find some folks to play music with.

Even though I am in this beautiful place with fabulous friends, I am still missing Nashville and the folks there.  I am missing my fam, too.  So, I am sending hugs out to you guys today.
